Molly Ivins has died.

Molly Ivins is “raising hell” in heaven now, the Grand Dame has left us.

Molly Ivins has left this earth. But she will not be forgotten, not by me at least. Her sass, her spunk, her spirit all made Molly what she was, a fighter that stood up to the ‘good ol boyz’ in TX politics. Give Molly credit..standing toe to tow with the likes of Tom DeLay and all the other republicans who hated her with a passion.

My heart is breaking as I write this..she was a Grand Dame. I still can not think straight, my room is cold, I have goose bumps. Molly fought so hard, years of fighting her breast cancer and still writing her syndicated column, she refused to be cowed by this disease.

She was the one that referred to the President as the Shrub. I got it from her. It quickly became the only way I would refer to that sumbitch.

Over 400 newspapers subscribed her to column. One of her last columns has this quote:

"We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war," Ivins wrote in the Jan. 11 column. "We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, 'Stop it, now!'"

Molly was a fighter to the end, promising to return and fight the good fight. That was a promise she couldn’t keep this time around. Usually 3 times is a charm..but not in Molly’s case. This was her third bout with breast cancer.

Molly raised hell with the best of them. She was humorous and at the same time biting and spot on..attacking those in power that didn’t take care of the powerless.

The following is from the Texas Observer when told of Molly’s death. Molly loved the T.O. and still raised money for them whenever she could, please visit their website for a glorious remembrance of Molly:

“Molly was a hero. She was a mentor. She was a liberal. She was a patriot. She was a friend. And she always will be. With Molly's death we have lost someone we hold dear. What she has left behind we will hold dearer still.”

Sleep well Grand Dame..I hope you get some great audiences up in heaven.

Another blogger over at BIO has turned me on to the following YouTube video entitled the "Dildo Diaries" its adult content as noted by the title..but its a laugh to hold you over if your sad right now. Molly explains Texas' sodomy laws..its a must see my dear reader.

The new face of the anti-war crowd: Protesting ain't just for hippies anymore.

Salon.com has a good writeup about the March on DC here. It points out many of the groups that engaged in civil disobedience Saturday were not the usual left "wingnuts" and hippies:

"Regardless of size, the protest felt different. The demographics of the crowd had changed. As opposition to the war in Iraq mounts, sparked by the president's decision to send 21,500 more troops, protesting against it has become mainstream. There were plenty of professional protesters in evidence Saturday, the kind for whom protests are a lifestyle choice, but there were also more yuppies, more families with small children, more older people and even a fair number of stylishly dressed young girls in North Face jackets and Ralph Lauren sunglasses. Just as important, the confused, off-topic rhetoric of so many past protests was noticeably muted."

Salon then goes on to point out the diversity of the speakers but puts it in a negative light, as if its a bad thing. They also poke fun at the extremists or "wingnuts" in attendance.

I have a problem with this because the peace groups and activists are not about narrow vision. We, in the anti-war movement, welcome everyone that agrees on one thing: GET OUT OF IRAQ NOW! If they bring their own causes to the march, so be it. Some people don't like that the left welcomes people of dubious mindset, and some think this detracts from our message. I do not think it does. I think it shows that we welcome diversity and even if some folks don't agree that freeing "Mumia" is the right thing to do..we agree on a bigger issue that affects every man, woman and child..the War in Iraq is wrong.

Nonetheless, it is a good article to read, it has interviews with first time protesters, and one point is very clear..The President is helping our numbers grow. His escalation of the war in Iraq is bringing out more people who have never protested before and from all walks of life. For an independant POV on the March, along with some great pics, DCIndyMedia has a good read as well.

So, like Bush did in Iraq, he does here at home..he has created a situation that sparks involvement and people are not afraid to speak out, they feel they must speak out and I agree with that assessment completely. Bush is his own worst enemy. Thanks, you jackass.

Videos from DC on UFPJ website.

United for Peace and Justice has some good videos up from Saturdays march. Check out all of them here. The people of America against the war spoke loud and clear and continue to do so today when many of the marchers will visit Senators and Congressmen and women in their offices reminding them that over % of Americans are against the war and want out of it.

I wonder if the "I" word will be dropped on them? I know I would..even if its not on the "table" as Pelosi as stated.

Vice President is the talk of the town lately, and for good reason.

The Vice President of the United States is the center of attention lately, and he doesn’t respond well to being in the limelight.

I have to say that I have been sidetracked this week from many of the issues I usually follow. There has, however, been a common thread running through many of them..it can be identified by one word, that brings fear and loathing into the hearts and minds of many a liberal-minded person.

Cheney.

Like some of our most famous public figures, just one word identifies our current Vice President. Prince, Roseanne, Streisand, Nixon, Reagan…You only have to say one part of their names and you know who someone is speaking or writing about.

Deadeye Dick Cheney is one man that, thank God, isn’t in a position to push the nuclear button. I fear that if something happened to Bush, Cheney wouldn’t have a problem with nuking first and answering for it later. I am sure his mentality pleases the war-mongering crowd, but it just sends shivers down my screwed up spine. His willingness to play dirty, lie his ass off and divide our nation for his own agenda never ceases to amaze me. He is contemptuous of anyone that questions or does not agree with him. It’s the “daddy syndrome” in many ways. His interview with Wolf Blitzer this week at CNN was a shining example of how he bullies people and stretches the truth to fit his POV. He is always confrontational when not in front of a flag-waving Neocon crowd, military organization or speaking to someone on his favorite propaganda channel..Fox News. Blitzer must have been ready to tear his hair out when he found out he was tasked with interviewing everyone’s favorite hunter last week. Some excerpts from this weeks “Situation Room” interview with Cheney:

When Blitzer asked whether the administration’s credibility had been hurt by “the blunders and the failures” in Iraq, Cheney interjected: “Wolf, Wolf, I simply don’t accept the premise of your question. I just think its hogwash.” Funny, but even the President himself has seen fit to admit to failures in Iraq in his two most recent speeches this month. But not ol Dick, no sir..Dick ain’t admitting to anything. Wait..Dick did admit this gem during the interview:

“Bottom line is that we’ve had enormous successes and we will continue to have enormous successes.”

I almost bit off the edge of the glass I was drinking out of when I heard that line coming out of his piehole. I sat there and thought a bit about what he could be alluding to with regard to enormous successes…and I thought..and I thought some more. Nope..no “enormous” successes came to mind for me, my dear reader. Unless of course you count the money Halliburton, Blackwater, CACI, and all the other contractors have made off the war in Iraq. His cough*intelligent* cough response when asked why Hillary Clinton wouldn’t make a good President really impressed me; “Because she’s a Democrat.”

Nothing partisan there right? Just a nice narrow-minded assessment without one word based in factual reality. Being a democrat does not automatically make one a lousy President, I don’t care what this fuckwit says. The lack of any substance was downright maddening. I would really like to hear him verbalize what exactly is wrong with Hillary in his view. Give us something to ponder, don’t expect the rest of society to buy your bullshit based on her party affiliation you pathetic old gasbag. Try to use a little deductive reasoning when telling us why a democrat wouldn’t make a good president. Is it too much to ask? To me, this statement smacked of a partisan political attack, something Cheney excels at. If he thinks the world revolves around party affiliation, I got news for him then: over 65% of American’s must now be registered Democrat since they no longer support the war in Iraq as part of the Global War on Terror. The vast majority of American’s also do not think the current administration is worth squat when it comes to doing the job we elected Bush and Cheney to do. That is the universal “we” btw..I didn’t vote for either of them personally. As one writeup about Cheney notes this week: As least Dick didn’t tell Wolf to go “fuck himself”, a favorite comeback of Cheney’s when pressed for answers or responses on given subjects.

Another article, over at E&P likened Cheney to “Baghdad Bob”. Its an amusing read, giving you quotes from Bob and asking you to visualize them coming out of Cheney’s mouth..its not a stretch believe me.

Now, we also saw Cheney’s name in the news repeatedly for another issue..PlameGate. With the beginning of Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s trial this week, Cheney would be a rich man if he were handed a buck for each time his name was bandied about by the defense, the prosecution or the witnesses in this case. Already, witnesses are tossing Dick under the bus by stating Cheney personally directed the effort to discredit Joseph Wilson by having calls made to reporters in 2003. Catherine J. Martin, who was the vice president's top press aide at the time, testified that Cheney dictated detailed "talking points" for his chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, and others on how they could impugn the Wilson’s credibility. Cheney outright lied about Wilson’s trip to Niger and who instituted the trip and why, on the failed hunt to tie Saddam to uranium purchases. Scooter has no intention of going down for PlameGate quietly. His lawyers made that abundantly clear during their opening argument. Ms. Martin testified as a prosecution witness, so both sides are interested in what Cheney said and directed others to say when the war against Joe Wilson was declared after his infamous NYT OpEd piece shortly after Bush’s SOTU speech in 2003. Cheney was evidently the one to spearhead the movement to discredit Wilson, which shows one of two things. The man needed more important and reality-based work to do..or he was pissed off that he couldn’t personally ask Joe Wilson if he wanted to go hunting one weekend in the near future. An LAT article on the trial has the following summation on Martin’s testimony with regard to Cheney’s role:

“The vice president ordered press aides to start tracking press coverage closely, while Libby was directed to contact reporters. At one point, the vice president gave a note card to Libby with information to give to a Time magazine reporter covering the case, while Cheney and Libby were returning on Air Force Two from the christening of an aircraft carrier.”

Joe Wilson did not lie in his OpEd piece. The man told the truth. He and his wife have continued to speak truth to power since that fateful SOTU speech in 2003. Cheney has been caught in so many half-truths and down right specious lies..it would take another article to set them all before you. How this man has one scintilla of credibility is beyond me. To have the brass balls to sit in his office, on taxpayer time, and plan a smear campaign to discredit Joe Wilson is a political move that rivals Nixon’s attempt to spy on the Democrats at the Watergate Hotel. It was all about hiding the truth from the American public at ANY cost. Outing Valerie Plame did not cost her life..and for that Cheney and the rest of us should be thankful. It’s against the law to do what was done to Valerie Plame and for good reason…as an employee of the CIA, nasty people could be pissed and wish to kill her, as witnessed by what happened to former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko in England last year. His death was a horrible, painful one. It’s hard to say if that was Cheney’s intent. The man has no conscience and no moral compass as many in the West Wing of the White House have exhibited over the last 6 years. To spend their time trying to find ways to discredit the TRUTH is disgusting on every level. It’s an act that should not be tolerated in a civil and democratic society.

We should not be watching Libby’s trial, we should be watching the trial of the individual that perpetuated this bullshit, who started the ball rolling in the race to make Joe Wilson look like a liar and a fool. To spend hours and days in the employ of the citizens of the United States, spinning lies and innuendo is enough to show me that Cheney is an underhanded sumbitch. He will stop at nothing to further his agenda of deceit, including sacrificing Libby to save himself and Karl Rove, and telling Wolf Blitzer that a valid question is nothing more than “hogwash”. I might actually have a twinge of respect if Cheney had actually told Blitzer to go “fuck himself”. At least that can not be construed as anything more than what it is..a childish taunt when you have no other comeback or defense of your position.

Todays March on Washington has great turnout.

WaPo has a good writeup about it here. Hundreds of thousands turned out. There are plenty of articles out there to read about todays events. I just chose them since they were the most detailed. Pictures so far are courtesy of the LAT writeup. I created a Youtube video of them all, including pics from Ms. Liberty's march in Palm Springs, thank you girlfriend! No crowd estimates since the DC cops do not wish to provide that info when its a huge turnout..And..the White House issued a statement on the March:

The White House issued a statement in response to the demonstration. “The president believes that the right to free speech is one of the greatest freedoms in our country,” said Gordon D. Johndroe, a White House spokesman.

Over at Carbon Paper, a first hand account of the March in DC as well. Good pictures too.

Baghdad Brutality by Iraqi soldiers caught on tape

Channel 4 out of Britain has exclusive video of Iraqi soldiers beating suspected insurgents in the street...while US soldiers stand by and watch. When it was discovered that the Channel4 reporters were recording this event, according to the accompanying article up:

"The journalists were then threatened and held under armed guard by the Americans - as troops attempted to seize their footage."

US Army commander Lieutenant Colonel Dale C Kuehl has stated:

"The US Army does not condone detainee abuse within our formation not within ISF formations. The appropriate actions will be taken once the results of the investigation are final."

The American soldiers just sit in their vehicle and watch..letting it happen. They even go so far as to comment that the Iraqi's are giving the individual a "Rodney King" beating.

As long as the MSM gets a hold of it, and stays on top of it there will be hell to pay..otherwise my bet is this goes away.

Chuck Hagel spills his guts..again and in print.

Thanks to Ken over at BIO for the link to this interview w/Chuck Hagel out this month. Its 7 pages of who did what in the run up to the Iraq War over in the West Wing of the White House. I know people are skeptical of Hagel's intentions for coming out at this time.

Hey..its as good a time as any in my opinion. With Cheney having a meltdown on Wolf Blitzer's show the other night..and Libby's trial..its not a happy time over at 1600 Penn. Ave. right now.

I hope they choke on it. I really hope they all do.

Here are some eye catching Q's and A's from mid interview:

They expected Congress to let them start a war anywhere they wanted in the Middle East?
"Yes. Yes. Wide open. We had to rewrite it. Joe Biden, Dick Lugar, and I stripped the language that the White House had set up, and put our language in it."

*snip*

Does being a veteran also make you sensitive to the administration’s approach to interrogation and the use of secret military prisons?
It does, because that’s not who America is. We have always, certainly since World War II, had the moral high ground in the world. But these secret prisons and the treatment at Guantánamo destroy all of that. We ought to shut down Guantánamo. There shouldn’t be any secret prisons. Why do we need those? What are we afraid of? Here we are, the greatest nation the world has ever seen. Why can’t we let the Red Cross into our prisons? Why do we deny they exist? Why do we keep them locked up? What are we afraid of? Why aren’t we dealing with Iran and Syria?

*snip*

Is it strange for you to be allied on these issues with the anti-war left, which is not exactly your constituency?
I think these issues are starting to redefine the political landscape. You are going to see alliances and relationships develop that are based on this war. You are going to see a reorientation of political parties.

How conservative are you really? Tell me the truth: You don’t care whether or not gay people get married, do you?
No. Personally, I think marriage is between a man and a woman, but that’s because I see it as a religious union. As a legal contract, marriage should be up to the states. If a state wants to change the rules, that’s up to them.

Btw..Chuckie thinks flag-burning should be against the law. He voted to ban it and he thinks cannabis should remain illegal. He ain't perfect..he IS a republican. But, I wonder for how long?

Wouldn't most Repub's consider him a traitor now? Like Lieberman, he has changed his spots?

Does that make us even now?

Interesting, none the less. How many guys commit political suicide(within their own party) twice in one week?

There's problems in Iraq" he said, but its not a "terrible situation".

What is Dick Cheney drinking these days if he doesn’t consider the “situation” in Iraq to be terrible? Just what in the blue hell does it take for him to consider Iraq a terrible place? 100 dead Iraqi’s in one day must not count for anything in Deadeye Dicks world. Blowing the back of the heads off of 4 American’s must not be too terrible either in Dick Cheney’s world.

On CNN Cheney tried like hell to paint a rosy picture of what “we” have accomplished in Iraq. He was argumentative with Blitzer, not answering the questions put to him, just sounding like a broken record with the same rhetoric we have come to expect from this man that sits a heartbeat away from being President.

When asked why he thought Hillary Clinton wouldn’t make a good president his remarks showed his ignorance and allegiance is to his party, not his country when he said:

“Because she’s a Democrat.”

Instead of providing examples to support his position that Iraq is going swimmingly, he said things like this:

When Blitzer asked whether the administration’s credibility had been hurt by “the blunders and the failures” in Iraq, Cheney interjected: “Wolf, Wolf, I simply don’t accept the premise of your question. I just think it’s hogwash.”

The President has admitted in two speeches lately that there have been mistakes, there have been short-sighted goals..but not Cheney. He refuses to admit to anything going wrong. Cheney’s delusional view of the war in Iraq was summed up quite well for me with this line:

“Bottom line is that we’ve had enormous successes and we will continue to have enormous successes.”

If Iraq is the face of “enormous success”..I would hate to see abject failure Mr. Cheney. Your attempt to spin the war as a success was a failure Mr. Cheney..because over 65% of America isn’t buying what you are selling any longer, you delusional son of a bitch.

Chuck Hagel lets it fly...and it hits everyone in the room and on Capitol Hill

Damn Chuck..good on ya dude..good on ya.

It is worth the watch, to see this man just rip up on every Senator in office. He said and I quote:

"If we do not debate this, we are not worthy of our country. We have failed our country."

Watergate bungler E.Howard Hunt dies

He passed on yesterday, but some folks might of missed the news in anticipation of the Shrub's speechifying last night. He was 88 years old and hated being called a burglar..he preferred the term: Watergate Conspirator...

Jesus, like that makes it better? It was splitting hairs because anyway you look at it..he was breaking the law and bungled it. 25 men, including Hunt went to jail for the crime and subsequent cover-up. Nixon of course resigned in shame..and the rest is history..

And to think..what Nixon pulled was tame compared to what our Asshat-in-Chief has done to this country in the last six years.

In other news..Tommy DeLay is still free on bail..but Ronnie Earl is still doggedly attempting to get the conspiracy charge reinstated against him. You Go Ronnie! Get the bastard..get him good darlin'. Hopefully this trial will begin in my lifetime..I want to see Hot Tub Tom in prison orange.

A democrat did win Tommy's seat..there is some justice in that, don't you think?

The SOTU according to Bush..my take

First..if you missed this little piece of history..you can view the written word here. The White House site is always happen to indulge us with the Decider-in-Chiefs verbage..or garbage..depending on your POV my dear reader. This is what I took away from his scant 49 minutes of speechifying Tuesday night.

When he said balance the budget, I almost shat myself. This coming from a President that doesn't know what the word veto means..or hasn't until the Dem's start passing some bills. Just how he plans to balance the budget whilst spending $8 billion a month in Iraq is beyond me..and I will hazard a guess the Dems were scratching their heads (or balls) on that one too.

Health Insurance. I quit playing with the lint in my bellybutton when I heard him say the words "health care for all Americans". But his idea of healthcare isn't the same as mine evidently since he was quite adamant that he trusts the insurance industry to provide health insurance at a decent price for all. Those bastards only care about their bottom line and somehow I don't see them providing most working stiffs with decent coverage at a price most of us can really afford. He blathered on about tax credits yet will consider health insurance taxable income..make up your mind jackass. Your tax credits might help folks who actually HAVE health insurance from their employers..what about those of us that DO NOT get any health insurance from our cheap-ass employers?

Energy Dependance. The current occupant of the oval office, true to form didn't say much, all the while running his piehole on this subject. Changing the Cafe Standards is nice but only a start, and taking 10 years to do it..wastes precious time. Asking for more drilling is in line with his Pro-Oil Company policies and yes my dear reader..he demanded more drilling..no surprise there, right? Doubling the Strategic Oil Reserves doesn't do a friggin thing for our energy consumption or our demand for foreign oil in the long term.

No Child Left Behind..Asshole STILL isn't funding it. Its an idea that is worthless if not funded. States and municipalities can not afford to fund your plan..is this news to you dipshit? Unlike you, who funds the war by borrowing from countries that aren't our friends..like China..States can not borrow money to fund your demands on school systems that already have problems meeting the current goals of NCLB..much less the new demands you wish to heap on them.

Increasing the size of the permanent military. Even the military brass sitting in the chamber didn't get excited on this one. Neither did I. I still don't see our citizens lining up in droves to go to Iraq and die for oil, unless the alternative is working at McDonalds.

Line of the night in my book (highlighted in bold):

"We went into this largely united -- in our assumptions and in our convictions. And whatever you voted for, you did not vote for failure".--Very astute you friggin moron. Since everything you said in the run up to the war in Iraq was a damn lie..No one really knows wtf they voted for..other than grabbing up the second largest oil reserves in the world and using our citizens to protect it, all the while dying and being permanently injured to do so. I feel the bold part is a Freudian slip..and no one can convince me otherwise.

The devil is in the details..when it comes to spying on Americans

At the hearing being held by the Judiciary Committee, Alberto Gonzalez tried in vain to blow off the many questions put to him by the Senators. As a NYT writeup points out:

"Senators from both parties who had long criticized the eavesdropping without court warrants said at a Judiciary Committee hearing that they welcomed the change but wanted details. They said they wanted to be sure that the new rules adequately protected Americans’ privacy."

But don't get excited my dear reader..Uncle Al wasn't forthcoming with details. Surely you aren't surprised that Uncle Al was tight lipped. I know I am not.

"Pressed repeatedly for details, Mr. Gonzales offered little new information and would not agree to provide more documents to explain the decision. He declined to answer questions about why the administration had reversed itself after saying for more than a year that the program could not operate effectively under court supervision."

True to form, Uncle Al invoked 9/11 with this remark: “There was a reason why we didn’t do this as an initial matter shortly after the attacks of Sept. 11,”--Thanks Al. Anyone told you lately that your a vile, nasty, unamerican prick without a conscience? 9/11 happened over 5 years ago. For 5 years our government has been spying on Americans without warrants or due process.

There was a dim light at the end of the tunnel however, with this glimmer of hope coming out of the hearing:

"With Justice Department officials unwilling to provide lawmakers with documents, lawmakers explored other ways to obtain information. In response to a request from the Judiciary Committee chairman,Patrick J. Leahy, Democrat of Vermont, the presiding judge of the foreign intelligence surveillance court, Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, a federal district judge in the District of Columbia, said the court would be willing to turn over to the panel its classified orders."

But..they will ONLY turn over information if the executive branch and the legislative branch agree on turning over the documents.

We know from past experience that the clowns in the Executive Branch don't turn ANYTHING over. They just scream and wring their hands announcing:

States Secrets Privilege.

Oh wait..Uncle Al didn't say yes, and he didn't say no..what he said was that he had to ask his daddy first..you know..the Decider-in_Chief:

“I’m not saying that I have objection to its being released. What I’m saying is it’s not my decision to make.”

Give me a break Uncle Al..your so full of shit your eyes are brown.

One Nation, with liberty and justice for all Foreign Oil companies.

The government of Iraq is nearing the end of a road. It’s a road we put them on by invading their country, bombing the living hell out of their infrastructure and telling the world we were doing it to end Iraq’s suffering under a heinous dictator. Of course, the original reasons given for entering Iraq were significantly different than just dethroning Saddam Hussien, but for now..lets just go with how much good we did by getting rid of him, shall we?

What Bush didn’t tell the world was that Iraq was also being invaded so he could help his buddies in the Oil business secure the rights to all that black gold. Lee Raymond’s old haunt, Exxon, along with Shell, BP and others would be secure in the knowledge that they alone would be awarded the contracts to extract and process all that fossil fuel under the sands of Iraq. For more than 4 years, Bush and his Oil cronies have worked for passage of the law that provides them with what many of us have seen as the ultimate reason for entering Iraq all along…the Oil.

Bush is fond of telling the American citizens and the rest of the world, that Iraq is a Democracy now. To be sure, it’s a fledgling Democracy, but a Democracy nonetheless. Well, if that’s the case…why has this “new law” been created in almost total secrecy within Iraq? Almost no one—both outside of and within the Iraqi government, including the parliament—has seen it but the men on a cabinet-level committee.

This new “law” will basically shut out any Iraqi oil companies from becoming “contractors” in their own country’s Oil Business. That alone will be the job of foreign oil companies my dear reader. This means no longer will Iraq control its own resource. The oil will no longer be “nationalized” as other countries in the region are; like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Iran. These three countries, and actually Iraq under Saddam, outlawed foreign countries from controlling the development of their most precious resource.

This new law, will centralize the control of handing out the Oil contracts to one government group. The Kurd’s and the Shia’s, who have considerable amounts of the black gold underneath their territories, wanted to maintain control over who will get the 30-year contracts to suck the oil out of the ground and sell it.

It remains to be seen if the new Oil Law will be approved soon, the negotiation process with the Kurd’s and Shia’s is still taking place. The Kurdistan regional government issued a statement on Friday criticizing an Oil Ministry spokesman for saying that the oil law had been agreed upon unanimously and put in final form. While BushCo and the international oil companies chomp at the bit, the Oil Ministry is still trying to sell this law to all factions and groups within Iraq. The Kurds are fighting to maintain control over their oil and who will extract it. The central government wants to have the final say on who will be awarded the contracts.

American and Iraqi citizens can only sit by and watch while the world’s second largest oil reserves are carved up and handed to foreign Oil interests. The true winner in all this will be the American people, not the Iraqi’s. We will once again have plenty of oil and gas for our Hummers and Lincoln Navigators. The Iraqi people will lose the right to control one of the worlds most sought after resources, which sits under their sand. Reports are out there that as high as 75% of the profits from the extraction and sale of the Oil will go to the oil companies, not the Iraqi people for a set number of years in the beginning. Until the Oil Law is passed in it’s final form, nothing is for sure..except of course, who will win the right to extract and process all that black gold:

George Bush’s closest and best friends..the Oil Industry.

So when people tell you that entering Iraq, no matter what the reasons, was a good thing my dear reader..you can ask them who, exactly was it a good deal for? The Iraqi’s might of lost a dictator but they also lost the right to control their own oil. When people tell you that our soldiers died to secure freedom for the Iraqi’s ask them what else was secured as well. It took over 4 years for the real reason to see the light of day..but its out there in the mainstream media now. How they spin it is a whole ‘nother story. This article in the NYT doesn’t say one word about the foreign oil companies controlling the oil..it talks mainly about the splitting of the profits between the Iraqi territories. On the other hand..this article on TomPaine.com tells you how the people of Iraq are getting the short end of the stick.

No matter how you spin it though..its still a loss for the country of Iraq and its citizens.

The War Tapes..buy it from IAVA

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America(IAVA) are supporting the release of "The War Tapes". This is a documentary about the war filmed in combat by soldiers themselves. Its a powerful movie I would think and the POV is neither pro or anti-war..its just about the war from the soldiers in the combat theatre. They filmed it during the course of their year in Iraq. The trailer below is worth the watch..please take 2 min. 11 sec of your life to watch it..then go to IAVA's website and show your support by purchasing it..and if your so inclined..have a house party to show it to your friends and neighbors. The link above takes you to IAVA's site where you can purchase the movie and find out more about the house party's being hosted, or host one yourself. Leftwing News on a Freaky Friday..

Its a good title for a post that covers lots o' ground isn't it? well, onward Leftwing soldiers...

Seems Ahmadinejad is getting some major heat at home. Since the UN smacked their knuckles over the nuclear thing..and put on some sanctions..they are affecting the bottom line for Iran..aka their economy. According to this IHT writeup:

"Members of the Iranian Parliament criticized the president in two documents this week for his handling of the nuclear crisis and the faltering economy. Last week two hard-line newspapers criticized Ahmadinejad for his comments about the country's nuclear program, saying he had complicated the matter."-Although I didn't think he allowed folks to complain publicly about him or his policies..I guess its different when its the governing body and two major newspapers. Good for them! Fuck Ahmadinejad..he is Iran's BushCo and I hope his shit hits the fan too.

TSA to fix the No-Fly List. Wouldn't you say its about damn time? I mean really..its got the names of the dead hijackers on it for starters..then it has names like Bob Jones..with no real info so every Bob Jones gets pulled out and strip searched or questioned like he just rolled up his prayer rug in the terminal waiting area. Also in the article..Kip "Fuckwit" Hawley has stated that searching 100% of air cargo, as recommended by the 9/11 Commission, may not be as effective as other security measures..Like running through a list of 32,000 friggin names is effective Kip..look you dipshit..I would rather have people checking every single damn piece of cargo than hassling frequent flyers for hours on end because their name is the same as some bogus name on your fuckwitted No-Fly List. I would also like to say that I think checking ALL cargo holds leaving the US or entering it has to be better than only checking like 3%..which is what I think we check now. Perhaps they would of caught the guy who was buying parts for our fighter planes from the DOD and shipping them off to Iran...just a thought there dumbass..

International Doctors and Lawyers are demanding better care and hospitals for Iraq's children. Seems that since there is a war going on, there is very little in the way of medicine, medical equipment and medical doctors. Children are dying from the lack of simple, everyday equipment that we take for granted here in the US and most European countries. Things like sterile needles and oxygen masks. Is this disgusting or what my dear reader?

Newborns are being fed "powdered milk and tap water" for starters. Read the story..it will break your heart if your a compassionate person or just a parent. The smallest victims of this fucking war are dying for the dumbest reasons imaginable. Its being called a violation of the Geneva Conventions by some..because the US and Britain, as the occupying forces aren't supplying shit my dear reader.

Ok, the pain meds are finally kicking in..I have to lay down for a bit. Its a bitch when you only sleep for 3 hours because of the pain. Have a good Friday folks..stay warm and I hope the Saints kick some ass this weekend.

Republican Rep.introduces legislation to prevent attack on Iran by Bush

Representative Walter "Freedom Fries" Jones(R) from North Carolina has introduced a bi-partisan bill today seeking to bar Bush from attacking Iran without the permission of Congress. Per this WaPo article:

"The resolution makes crystal clear that no previous resolution passed by Congress" authorizes a U.S. attack on Iran, Jones told reporters, referring to the 2002 vote by Congress authorizing the U.S. invasion of Iraq."

Ain't that some shit my dear reader :) The man behind dissing the French for not supporting our invasion of Iraq is now making sure its crystal freaking clear that Bush doesn't enjoy the support of all Republicans in attacking Iran. There are 11 co-sponsors of this mainly symbolic resolution.

Its getting ugly up there on the Hill folks..real ugly. Folks aren't liking Bush's bullying ways. His own party has members willing to step up and spit in his eye..metaphorically speaking of course. Pair this one with the anti-escalation Repubes and its not a happy time for BushCo.

NATO and U.S. Commanders in Afghanistan need more troops.

I was blogging and commenting over at Bring it On! yesterday about the Shrub's escalation of the war in Iraq. One of my main points of contention was the war in Afghanistan. I always supported going into Afghanistan. The Taliban was born and raised there. We were on our way to ending their reign there, when....lo and friggin behold...we started our shitstorm in Iraq.

We started diverting our troops into Iraq, and as they say..the rest is history. Now comes a request from NATO and the remaining US commanders in Afghanistan for more troops. They have actually devised a PLAN for what they will do with these troops, unlike the clusterfuck plan of the Shrub's for Iraq spun to us as "the new and improved War in Iraq".

There are roughly 132,000 troops in Iraq..there are only 40,000 troops in Afghanistan, of which only 21k of them are American soldiers.

Does anyone but moi...see the friggin irony in this? Anyone? We had a handle on the terrorists and their breeding grounds in Afghanistan. We actually were WINNING there sportsfans! To all the folks enamored with the US actually winning a war, Afghanistan was the best shot we had!

Gates has said he is sympathetic to this request. WTF? Sympathetic is something you feel for a stray dog, a friend who is suffering a loss or perhaps even an emotion that comes to mind when one is thinking about the plight of the homeless...but its not what I want to hear from Gates when it comes to maintaining the hard fought victories in Afghanistan. No sir..its surely not.

Even Hillary Clinton has raised the issue of more troops in Afghanistan this week. She said screw Iraq and escalating there..put more troops where winning is possible..and as of spring..losing is also a possibility when the Taliban comes out of hibernation and starts up their shit again..running over the border from Pakistan and making life a living hell for Afghani's and the soldiers trying to protect what headway they have made in the years we have been over there.

A snippet from the IHT article I linked at the beginning of my bitchfest:

"Gates met with General David Richards, the British officer commanding NATO forces in Afghanistan, who has complained repeatedly that unmet pledges of troops and equipment from NATO countries have left him 10 to 15 percent short of the forces he requires.

"Clearly, there is a need to fulfill those commitments, and I'll be asking them to do that" at a meeting of NATO defense ministers later this month in Spain, Richards said."

I realize it's not completely up to America to produce the troops and equipment needed to "fulfill" the needs of the commanders in Afghanistan. But if we can't do it, we damn sure need to make sure SOMEBODY is doing it..and if the commanders have been consistently short, its also our responsibility to lean on the other NATO members to keep their promises. We are quite good at leaning on countries..its something we do quite well usually. We waltzed into Afghanistan looking for Bin Laden, our troops died to secure Afghanistan didn't they?

The last paragraph really jacked my jaw. I was gritting my teeth and I felt a nice rise in my blood pressure when I read this:

"NATO's Afghanistan force is especially short of helicopters and airplanes for evacuating wounded troops and moving supplies. In addition, Richards said he still had not received 1,200 promised troops to serve as a reserve force that he could deploy around Afghanistan on short notice."

I will be honest..my fear is that my niece will need to be evac'd if she, god forbid, gets wounded, or her group needs important supplies to protect themselves or even keep friggin' warm or eat. My mind was racing at this point with all the negatives associated by not having enough damn helicopters or airplanes.

We are shortchanging the troops and the people of Afghanistan..and its fucking WRONG people. We don't have enough troops to escalate the clusterfuck in Iraq, but to actually lose ground in Afghanistan because of Iraq is criminal. Its CRIMINAL. Why wasn't John Jackass Bolton leaning on NATO when his dumbass was squirreling around the UN, twisting his mustache and making smarmy comments?

We are going to blow it in Afghanistan. We are going to let it all go to hell..so we can toss the dice and roll more soldiers into Iraq. Everyone should be pissed off about this..EVERYONE..not just me. Everyone who wants to protect America, Everyone that wants to destroy the Taliban and the terrorists they create, everyone that wants to bring an end to the Global War on Terror should be pissed. Everyone who is tired of hearing about the fear factor from Bush and his buddies should be pissed.

If this doesn't convince people that Bush is either an Idiot or playing some sick game with no intention of winning anything, anywhere, I do not know what will. Gates having the nads to be "sympathetic" just shows the cavalier attitude of this administration. It also means the "War on Terror" is a damn joke, albeit a very sick one..

The war in Afghanistan has been on the back burner since Iraq started going to hell in a handbasket. The number of American troops have dwindled and frankly, I had to get this news from a foreign newspaper, thats how little attention our media gives to Afghanistan anymore.

Its not right..and I am fucking pissed. You should be too, my dear reader.

Courts jump in to monitor domestic spying by BushCo

From the NYT this afternoon:

WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 -- The Bush administration, in what appears to be a concession to its critics, said today it will allow an independent court to monitor its warrantless electronic-eavesdropping program.

Attorney General Alberto "Fuckwit" Gonzales told the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, created by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 to supervise anti-terrorism wiretapping within the United States, will supervise the eavesdropping operations from now on.

The attorney general sought to portray the administration’s change of posture as anything but grudging. “In the spring of 2005 -- well before the first press account disclosing the existence of the Terrorist Surveillance Program -- the administration began exploring options” for seeking such approval, he said.

Is Alberto that stupid that he actually believes people are buying what he just tried to sell? Bush would continue his status quo of spying without a warrant if the Repubes were still in charge. We know this..we ain't stupid mutha fucka!

It's a good day for American's. Its a good day when the federal fuckwits give up without even so much as a supoena or hearing. Shows the s.o.b.'s knew it wasn't going to fair well for them. Liars, bags of batshits that they are....they try to spin it. Amazing..simply amazing.

oh..get a load of this my dear reader...the NYT has this little bit of info about why the letter about the warrantless spying surfaced now:

"The letter from Mr. Gonzales came a day before he is to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee, some of whose members have been hostile to the administration’s arguments in favor of the program."

San Diego Federal Prosecutor and others being forced out by Bush administration.

Carol Lam, US Attorney for San Diego, has been forced out of office by the Bush administration, along with Kevin Ryan in San Francisco. The complaint is that she didn't prosecute enough alien smugglers..

LMAO. She only prosecuted the biggest felon in the history of elected office; Randy Duke Cunningham. and went after a corrupt Insurance company paying doctors kickbacks.

As this article points out, the ever-popular Patriot Act seems to be behind the move:

"The two are among 11 top federal prosecutors who have resigned or announced their resignations since an obscure provision in the USA Patriot Act reauthorization last year enabled the U.S. attorney general to appoint replacements without Senate confirmation."

Dianne Feinstein pitched a fit and a Justice Dept spokesman quickly stated that congress would be consulted before the nomination of replacements, as has been the routine since the law was changed. Since those folks pull anything they can get away with..do we really believe him? Does anyone think for one minute this isn't politically motivated? Or, perhaps THESE lawyers have a conscience and are resigning in order to no longer do the Shrub's bidding:

"Of California's top federal prosecutors, only U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott of Sacramento is staying at his job. Debra Wong Yang, the chief federal prosecutor of Los Angeles, quit last month to take a job with a private law firm."

Thanks to Ken Grandlund over at Bring it On! for posting about this and bringing it to our attention.

Barack Obama announces exploratory committee for Prez

Via YouTube, ala John Edwards, Obama announced this morning the creation of his exploratory commitee to run for President. Does anyone, besides me, think this is really a run at Vice Presidency?

I like Obama, don't get me wrong. I just don't think he is "electable" as President. He has only 2 years as a Senator under his belt, and no Foreign Policy experience. Plus..he is a man of "color" and this won't play well in the south. Is the rest of the United States ready for a Black President? I am..but not this time around, unless his intentions are really to grab the eye of the front runner for consideration as his Vice Pres candidate.

Bush might hate Iran, but Iraq doesn't see it that way.

As we ramp up to send more soldiers to Iraq, the Iraqi government is making nice with Iran. Per this article in the LAT; "Iraq's foreign minister, responding to a U.S. raid on an Iranian office in Irbil in northern Iraq last week, said Monday that the government intended to transform similar Iranian agencies into consulates. The minister, Hoshyar Zebari, also said the government planned to negotiate more border entry points with Iran."

Our military is holding some of these Iranians captive..but the Iraq government, along with the Iranian government is lobbying for release of these individuals.

Correct me if I am wrong..but Bush would like to nuke the living shit out of Iran. There is no love loss between Iran and BushCo. Damn, didn't the Iraq Study Group also tell BushCo to open talks with Iran and Syria? Everyone wants to negotiate with Iran but Bush it seems. How does the Iraqi governments position on restoring relations with Iran fit into Bush's grand plan?

It doesn't.

This just gets more hosed up by the day my dear reader. We are working against the wishes of many of the Iraqi people by arresting the Iranians, demands have been made by the Iraqi government to either show them the evidence of spying by the Iranians..or let them go. Our President sounds like a broken record when it comes to Iran and their intentions, yet the Iraqi government welcomes Iranians into Iraq. Its a mess my dear reader and everyone is pissed off about it.

I think they have a right to do whatever they want, Iraq. If they want to become allies with Iran and Syria it's their sovereign right, even if our current occupant of the Oval office isn't happy with it. As the article points out:

"While Iraq has been strengthening its ties with Iran, it has also made overtures to its western neighbor Syria. Talabani is on a state visit to Damascus, the first such high-level meeting in almost three decades."

Its like that old song: With our without You..Iraq is going to develop an economic and political relationship with Iran..and there is very little, if anything Bush can do about it.

So, why doesn't he pull our troops out and let Iraq get on with the business of running its country?

The Oil...its the Oil silly. We can't leave until the Iraqi government puts into law that Exxon, Shell, BP and other oil companies control the production and extraction of Iraqi Oil.

"they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

His words, his birthday. The entire speech below.

We have a long way to go still Dr. King. I am sorry the war against racism isn't over, 44 years after you said these words. These days, we see people hating Muslims..not so much for the color of their skin but the religion they practice. Hate for an entire section of people on any level is wrong, especially when they did nothing to you personally to earn such hatred. Hating all for the actions of a few is paranoid and fuckwitted.

All the Leftwing news that fits.

Today, my dear reader, I have too much on my plate. Too many diatribes to whittle it down to just one, so…….we will address, albeit briefly, two which jerked my chain in a major way this week. I will not attempt to be unbiased. If Fox News doesn’t have to, why in the blue hell should I?

The 5th Anniversary of Gitmo arrived this week. Not the kind of anniversary you have a party to celebrate, unless of course you’re a rightwing nutjob who enjoys pulling the wings off butterflies and setting cats on fire with lighter fluid. Is that too violent a visual for you? Well, I hope to hell it was, because the crap we do in the name of truth and justice down there is friggin disgusting by any stretch of the imagination. One of the head jokers at the DOD actually had the cojones this week to come out in public and state that it’s outrageous that the best law firms in the U.S. are doing pro-bono work on behalf of the detainees. This Federal Fuckwit goes by the title of “US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Detainee Affairs Charles "Cully" Stimson”, and he actually uttered this quotable sound bite regarding legal representation for detainees this week:

"when corporate CEOs see that those firms are representing the very terrorists who hit their bottom line in 2001 those CEO's are going to make those law firms choose between representing terrorists or representing reputable firms."

Now, Mr. Stimson might be an intelligent man..but the only thing I have to judge him on are his words and frankly my dear reader..the man can’t rub two brain cells together. His lack of ethics is astounding, his lack of vision expected and the total absence of even a hint of blind, legal justice just made my blood run cold. The presumption of guilt on his part just gave me an Excedrin headache, the likes of which I haven’t had in over a week. Then the worthless bag of batshit actually started naming off the firms doing the work, just to make sure that all the CEO’s who were listening could call up their legal office and ask if any of these firms worked for them..whereby, at least in Stimson’s meager mind, said CEO would summarily fire the firm and look for other legal minds to do their bidding.

The legal eagles did not sit on their asses, and allow this shot across their bows..nope. At least one, David J. Cynamon, felt the need to respond to this horseshit by publicly stating:

“Apparently, the Bush Administration has no good answers to the legal and moral travesties at Guantanamo, so they have decided to fall back on good old-fashioned lawyer bashing in a desperate effort to change the subject. It is bad enough that they have consistently flouted the Supreme Court's 2004 ruling that the detainees are entitled to habeas corpus. Now they are attempting to prevent the detainees from having legal counsel at all. It is truly incredible that Stimson, an attorney himself, does not appear to understand or care about the fundamental obligation of lawyers to represent unpopular and indigent clients.

We and the other habeas counsel are very proud of the work we are doing on behalf of the Guantanamo detainees, and we are confident that the vast majority of our corporate clients feel the same way. The true "news story" here is not that prominent law firms are trying to get the detainees a fair hearing but that the Bush Administration is trying to deny them one.”
-emphasis mine btw.

Bush speaks, people weigh in..and its not good for the Shrub

The McCain Doctrine and John Edward's stand against Iraq will be a make or break issue in the Presidential elections of 08. After all, it’s only a year until the Iowa caucus folks!

But I mention this only because the current occupant of the oval office has seen fit to stay the course militarily even though he is calling it something different as of Wednesday evening when he addressed the nation. I most definitely heard the word “November” when he was speechifying Wednesday evening, which means we will not be out of Iraq this year, if he has any say about it. He even had the brass ones to use that time-honored phrase about fighting them there so we will be safe forever and ever here. We will have lots of wiggle room because McCain and Edwards are at opposite ends of the Iraq War spectrum. Anyone else who tosses his or her hat in the ring will be able to choose a spot somewhere in-between.

McCain is the over-the-top-hawk on what needs to be done in the clusterfuck that is the Iraq War. He most likely would feel real comfortable sending roughly 28 million troops over there to quash the 27 million Iraqi’s, all of them possible insurgents, into dust. There we go, problem with sectarian violence is solved! Obviously McCain, like Bush, doesn’t listen to the higher echelons of military minds, like the out-going head chief of Central Command, John Abazaid, who testified before the Senate recently. General Abazaid told John McCain directly to his friggin face that not only did he NOT have the troops to escalate the war in Iraq, he did not think it would make one ounce of difference in the outcome of the war.

But Johnny wants to show his nads and wave his dick around, actually asking for more troops than Bush did Wednesday night puts him in the catbird seat with the few remaining hawks and Neocon followers who still support the war at any cost…just so long as we win, baby..whats a few more dead people, we have to win!

Another possible Republican hopeful is Sam Brownback, who was actually IN Iraq Tuesday, talking to the troops and generals. He was also chatting up the truely important fuckwits in this war; The Iraqi government officials themselves. Brownback said after his little chit-chat with the Iraqi officials, and I quote from a Guardian piece:

``I do not believe that sending more troops to Iraq is the answer. Iraq requires a political rather than a military solution,'' Brownback said after meeting with top Iraqi officials in Baghdad. ``I came away from these meetings convinced that the United States should not increase its involvement until Sunnis and Shi'a are more willing to cooperate with each other instead of shooting at each other.''

I must say dear reader; I stand with the honorable Mr. Brownback on this premise. Fuck the Iraqi’s until they can grow the hell up and figure this sectarian shit out without resorting to torturing and blowing each other up, kidnapping elected officials and generally murdering hundreds of their fellow countrymen every month. He continues his train of thought, based on his discussions with these Iraq leaders below:

``Instead of surging troops, we must press the Iraqi government to reach a political solution,'' he said. ``We cannot achieve a political solution while a military solution is imposed. The best way to reach a democratic Iraq is to empower the Iraqis to take responsibility for their own nation building.''

Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney have come out for an escalation of the troop strength, but cover their asses by saying they wouldn’t use the same insane methods that Bush has been using and they would expect the Iraqi’s to tow the line and get their security forces up to speed quicker than a speeding bullet. As one talking head said the night of the “speech” by Bush; The President is going for “double or nothing” now in Iraq.

This isn’t a game of chance people and it's damn sure not Vegas. It’s a life or death dance with very high human stakes involved, both American and Iraqi. The coalition forces weren’t even mentioned by Bush during his speechifying Wednesday night. The latest line out of Britain has them drawing down their troop numbers until they are all out of there asap. Don’t blame them do you? I certainly don’t.

Now we come to Hillary “the hawk” Clinton. Ms. Rodham-Clinton said late Wednesday evening that Bush can go fuck himself, not exactly in those words but I think you catch my drift. She has jumped from the hawk party wagon after hearing Bush wax poetic about his “new plan” that is really identical to his old plan. Her exact words, according to a Newsday article were: "Based on the president's speech tonight, I cannot support his proposed escalation of the war in Iraq,"

John Edwards puts it right out there; Do not fund the escalation. Under any circumstances. His website has this up with his response to the Shrub’s speech:

"The situation in Iraq demands a political solution — the Iraqi people must take responsibility for their country. Escalating the war in Iraq, which our own generals agree won't help, sends the wrong message to the Iraqi people, to the region, and the world. In order to get the Iraqis to take responsibility for their country, we must show them that we are serious about leaving, and the best way to do that is to actually start leaving and immediately withdraw 40–50,000 troops. Once the U.S. starts leaving, the Iraqi people and other regional powers will be forced to step up and engage in the search for a political solution that can bring an end to sectarian violence and allow reconstruction to take hold, creating — as should have been done long ago — Iraqi jobs for Iraqis."

I think that is pretty straightforward on how Edwards stands on Iraq. Now bear in mind, Edwards does have the luxury of NOT being an elected representative right now, so he doesn’t have any direct or current constituents to piss off or answer to by taking this hard left on the War. He is also calling for people to phone their elected representatives and tell them the same thing- No more money for the war. He is even asking people to sign a petition against the escalation of the war here.

There are a host of republicans against the escalation of the war and increasing the troops. This is the biggest problem for the Warmonger-in-Chief. Condo was calling up the party’s headliners Wednesday evening asking them to hold off judgement until they all had a “sit down” meeting with Bush himself. Steven Hadley was kissing some Republican ass as well, trying to calm down the party faithful and stem the tide of the rats leaving the sinking ship.

Personally my dear reader, I don’t see having a “Come-to-Jesus” meeting with the Republicans having much of an effect on their opinions on the war, but I could be wrong. The fact of the matter is this; They will be running again in 08, Bush will be clearing brush on his ranch in Crawford, relaxing with Laura and the dog..and bailing the twins out of jail or trouble. Robert Novak went out on a limb this week making this statement on the conservative website HumanEvents.com column:

“President Bush and McCain, the front-runner for the next presidential nomination, in pressing for a surge of 30,000 more troops, will have trouble finding support from more than 12 out of 49 Republican senators”

Doesn’t look very good for the Decider-in-Chief does it? Lets hope he wakes up and smells the car bombs and IED’s very soon, for everyone’s sake. Its political chest-thumping we need, not military power to even attempt to solve the sectarian hatred and violence occurring daily and hourly in Iraq.

And just to add some perspective about how the "people" actually feel about the escalation and sending more troops to their deaths, aka the "surge", E&P has the lastest Gallup Poll numbers:

"But a new Gallup poll, taken over the past four days, finds that "the American public in general opposes the concept of an increase in troops in Iraq." Asked directly about the idea, 36% back it and 61% oppose. Of that, only 18% "strongly" support the idea. Gallup also notes that the same poll shows that 54% want a complete pullout within 12 months."
