The judge overseeing the lawsuit by the father of a marine killed in action who's funeral was picketed by the sick bastards of Westboro Baptist, has ordered liens on the church building and a law office owned by the Phelps family of wingnuts. From the article linked above:
A federal judge in Maryland on Thursday ordered liens on the Westboro Baptist Church building and the Phelps-Chartered Law office.
If the case presided over by U.S. District Court Judge Richard D. Bennett is upheld by an appeals court, the church, at 3701 S.W. 12th, and the office building, at 1414 S.W. Topeka Blvd., could be obtained by the court and sold, with the proceeds being applied toward $5 million in damages Bennett imposed on church members for picketing a military funeral.
I really can't believe this suit hasn't been tossed by now. Its a freedom of speech issue to me and although I would like nothing better than to see Fred Phelps and his wingnuts poverty-stricken and churchless..this case seems wrong on its face. It is being painted as an invasion of privacy and emotional distress issue by the father of the killed Marine and his attorneys.
I wish the father well and good luck in bringing down the nastiest bunch of whackjobs allowed to inhabit our planet.
