A draft bill by Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY) would require whistleblowers to report knowledge of criminal activity to a company's internal investigators before going to the feds, allowing lawbreakers a chance to thwart SEC enforcement actions by intimidating witnesses and destroying or altering evidence. This bill would completely gut financial regulatory agencies' new whistleblower award programs, discourage and endanger whistleblowers, jeopardize investigations and enforcement actions, and put investors, shareholders, and taxpayers at risk.
