Those standup folks over at the ACLU and the Center for Constitutional Rights have filed suit today in Federal court to halt the Shrubs eavesdropping on American citizens. The suits were filed in Detroit and NYC. The Detroit suit, which also names the NSA, was filed by the ACLU, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Greenpeace and several individuals. The NYC suit names Bush, the head of the National Security Agency, and the heads of the other major security agencies, challenging the NSA's surveillance of persons within the United States without judicial approval or statutory authorization.
Why can't the damn Democrats rally around this? Why cant they take the bullshit by the horns and start Impeachment proceedings?
Your guess is as good as mine. The link to the Yahoo article is here.
postscript: I like this quote from ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero:"President Bush may believe he can authorize spying on Americans without judicial or Congressional approval, but this program is illegal and we intend to put a stop to it,The current surveillance of Americans is a chilling assertion of presidential power that has not been seen since the days of Richard Nixon."
And we ALL know what happened to Nixon.
Truthout has a nice "wrap up" including links to the ACLU doc's here. Talk Left does as well.
