Ann Richards goes to the big Governors ball in the sky.
I know, thats probably a little tacky for a title..but Ann Richards had a sense of humor. The former governor of TX died today at 73. She had cancer. She was a fiesty, no holds barred type of broad, and I mean that in the best sense of the word...broad is not a bad word to me.
Her family said this about her, according to the CNN writeup here: "Her family said as governor she was most proud of two actions that probably cost her re-election. She vetoed legislation that would allow people to carry concealed handguns, automatic weapons and "cop-killer bullets." She also vetoed a bill that would have allowed the destruction of the environment over the Edwards Aquifer."
I like this memorable quote by Ann: "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth."--speaking about King George the 1st.
She only held one term as TX governor, but she put more women and minorities into positions of authority in TX than any of the good ol boyz before her.Her feminism also saw the first first black and female officers in the famous Texas Rangers.(not the baseball team folks.)
Its too damn bad she lost to the Shrub..think of what might NOT have been. if he lost that election...
Rest in Peace woman. We were blessed by your service to the citizens of TX and basically the US, in my view.
