"In a grim 63-page report, the Pentagon chronicled bad news on a variety of fronts. One telling indicator was the number of weekly attacks, which reached an all-time high in July. The American-led coalition suffered the brunt of the attacks, but an increasing number are being directed against civilians. In Baghdad, for example, civilian targets accounted for 22 percent of all the attacks, up from 15 percent in April. And the attacks on Iraqi troops and civilians caused many more deaths than did those on American troops."
And if you add the recently declassified report out of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence revealing that U.S. intelligence analysts were strongly disputing the alleged links between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda while senior Bush administration officials were publicly asserting those links to justify invading Iraq. I personally was shocked and awed to read: "Hussein repeatedly rebuffed al-Qaeda's overtures and tried to capture Zarqawi, the report said."--Aren't the Shrub, Rummy and Cheney all beating the war drum that terrorists were thriving in pre-war Iraq? I swear I heard one of the asshats say that this past week. This article in WaPo about the report and what was contained within it really jacked my jaw:
"The report also said exiles from the Iraqi National Congress (INC) tried to influence U.S. policy by providing, through defectors, false information on Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons capabilities. After skeptical analysts warned that the group had been penetrated by hostile intelligence services, including Iran's, a 2002 White House directive ordered that U.S. funding for the INC be continued."
As I suspected, the Shrub is still insisting a connection between Sadaam and Al-Qaeda, per the WaPo article: "As recently as Aug. 21, Bush suggested a link between Hussein and Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, who was killed by U.S. forces this summer. But a CIA assessment in October 2005 concluded that Hussein's government "did not have a relationship, harbor, or turn a blind eye toward Zarqawi and his associates," according to the report."
Friggin lying sack of sheepshit. Why do they ignore their own reports, their own specialized departments..reports prepared with our tax dollars and by no means cheaply either. Why does the Shrub and his minions keep playing us?Oh yeah..its the silly season..election time. If they keep saying the same thing over and over again, they hope it eventually sinks in.
Thats called propaganda...right?
