Who killed the Electric Car?
You get three guesses and the first two don't count..
Thanks to Anything They Say for reminding us about this documentary and its powerful message of greed in Detroit and the boardrooms of Oil companies. As the website for the movie states in a brief synopsis:
"It was among the fastest, most efficient production cars ever built. It ran on electricity, produced no emissions and catapulted American technology to the forefront of the automotive industry. The lucky few who drove it never wanted to give it up. So why did General Motors crush its fleet of EV1 electric vehicles in the Arizona desert?"
WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR? chronicles the life and mysterious death of the GM EV1, examining its cultural and economic ripple effects and how they reverberated through the halls of government and big business."
The best part of the story is how the Shrub's administration filed a brief in support of KILLING the EV1 when the consumers took the case to court to save this vehicle. I just love that one..don't you, dear reader?
You can view the trailer here. The website for the documentary is here. The 57-page Press kit has a detailed breakdown of the whole, sordid mess if you won't be seeing the movie. You can check that out here. PBS also has a website devoted to this documentary here.
