Legislation to shield American reporters from being forced by prosecutors to reveal their sources was approved Wednesday by the House Judiciary Committee. Media companies and journalism groups have argued that the measure is needed to keep the public informed about government corruption, but President George W. Bush's administration and other opponents say it could harm national security. The legislation is in response to former New York Times reporter Judith Miller's jailing for 85 days in 2005 for refusing to identify which Bush administration officials had talked with her about the identity CIA agent Valerie Plame. Plame's husband, Joseph Wilson, enraged the Bush administration by saying it was not true that irtaq had tried to get uranium ore from Niger to build nuclear weapons.
I personally feel Judy Miller was a shill for BushCo, but I do support this bill, and SCOTUS also supported shielding the press as well..remember the Pentagon Papers! BushCo however DOES NOT and uses their time-honored excuse of ..you guessed it..national security...yeah well so did Nixon ya jackasses. Five will get you ten it doesn't go anywhere and if it does..BushCo will veto it.
Conyers hit the nail on the head when he said: The bill "helps restore the independence of the press so that it can perform its essential duty of getting information out to the public,"
No shit sherlock! BushCo has done more to ruin the MSM, with their corporate bosses and owners help, than any President this side of Nixon.
