Bush might hate Iran, but Iraq doesn't see it that way.

As we ramp up to send more soldiers to Iraq, the Iraqi government is making nice with Iran. Per this article in the LAT; "Iraq's foreign minister, responding to a U.S. raid on an Iranian office in Irbil in northern Iraq last week, said Monday that the government intended to transform similar Iranian agencies into consulates. The minister, Hoshyar Zebari, also said the government planned to negotiate more border entry points with Iran."

Our military is holding some of these Iranians captive..but the Iraq government, along with the Iranian government is lobbying for release of these individuals.

Correct me if I am wrong..but Bush would like to nuke the living shit out of Iran. There is no love loss between Iran and BushCo. Damn, didn't the Iraq Study Group also tell BushCo to open talks with Iran and Syria? Everyone wants to negotiate with Iran but Bush it seems. How does the Iraqi governments position on restoring relations with Iran fit into Bush's grand plan?

It doesn't.

This just gets more hosed up by the day my dear reader. We are working against the wishes of many of the Iraqi people by arresting the Iranians, demands have been made by the Iraqi government to either show them the evidence of spying by the Iranians..or let them go. Our President sounds like a broken record when it comes to Iran and their intentions, yet the Iraqi government welcomes Iranians into Iraq. Its a mess my dear reader and everyone is pissed off about it.

I think they have a right to do whatever they want, Iraq. If they want to become allies with Iran and Syria it's their sovereign right, even if our current occupant of the Oval office isn't happy with it. As the article points out:

"While Iraq has been strengthening its ties with Iran, it has also made overtures to its western neighbor Syria. Talabani is on a state visit to Damascus, the first such high-level meeting in almost three decades."

Its like that old song: With our without You..Iraq is going to develop an economic and political relationship with Iran..and there is very little, if anything Bush can do about it.

So, why doesn't he pull our troops out and let Iraq get on with the business of running its country?

The Oil...its the Oil silly. We can't leave until the Iraqi government puts into law that Exxon, Shell, BP and other oil companies control the production and extraction of Iraqi Oil.
